Missions Support

Southside Baptist Church gives priority to being on mission with God.  The commitment of the church to missions encompasses prayer, finances and personal involvement.  Recipients of support from Southside include missionaries, students, and organizations.

Prayer

Southside recognizes the inherent difficulties in serving on the mission field - particularly when a mission assignment may be thousands of miles away and involve cross-cultural relationships, language barriers and separation from family and friends.  Southside is kept informed of the needs of missionaries and their families through the ongoing prayer ministry at Southside, e-mails and other communications with missionaries, missionary newsletters, and other media.  Southside Baptist Church is committed to providing prayer support for those serving on the mission field.

Finances

Everyone who gives tithes or undesignated offerings to Southside Baptist Church helps to financially support mission efforts.  A total of 18% of the undesignated budget at Southside goes to fund missions. And of the 18%, 12% goes to the Cooperative Program, 1.5% to Associational Missions, and 4.5% to Southside Missions.

Church members also give generously to special missions initiatives when they arise.  Most notable of such designated offerings are the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering designated for North American missions and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions.  Southside exceeded the goals for both these special offerings.

Individual classes and members of the church also financially support a number of North American and International missionaries.

Personal Involvement

Southside Baptist Church is personally involved in the lives and ministries of the missionaries it supports.  Several Southside members are currently serving as full-time missionaries throughout the world.  In addition to prayer and financial support, contact is maintained through e-mail and phone communications as well as short-term mission trips which help meet special needs.  Southside also screens and maintains contact with organizations that receive funding and other support from the church.
