Going on Mission

going scriptureMembers of Southside Baptist Church, and other Christians of like faith, are encouraged to go "on mission" with the Lord as He directs.  Those the Lord calls may respond and go on mission with Him locally, nationally, or internationally, on either a short-term or long-term basis.

Locally

Southside is active in continuing ministry in the local community in Huntsville, Alabama.  Two of the ways members may participate in local missions are:

Sparkman Homes As part of the discipleship function at Southside, a number of church members go to Sparkman Homes each Sunday evening to conduct Sunday School for children, youth, and adults.  In 2001, Southside Baptist Church purchased and refurbished a building in the Sparkman Homes area to be used, along with other facilities, to minister to the people of that community.
Searcy Homes Under the leadership of the the Southside Singles Ministry, church members may participate in ministry to children in the Searcy Homes community.  The primary emphasis of this missionary effort is to provide tutoring services to children in single-parent or under-privileged homes.

Nationally

One of the ways God seems to call His people to be career missionaries is for them to experience being on mission with Him on a short-term basis.  Southside Baptist Church looks for opportunities to go on mission trips to other parts of the United States in order for members of all ages to gain such experience.  Recent short-term national mission trips have included:

Internationally

God has called a number of Southside members into career missionary service.  Several others have joined Him in journeyman and International Service Corp. assignments for periods of up to two years missionary service.  Currently there are at least six missionaries serving the Lord as career, journeyman or ISC missionaries in four countries outside the United States.
