Someone You Should Know

by Brian Manus

I was born on January 29th, 1980 to a Midwestern "Christian" family. pic of Brian ManusI lived that life for several years without a care in the world. I was reckless in my lifestyle and I didn't care who I hurt in my path of self destruction. After years of drowning my sorrows and hurt and dealing dope in the streets, I was asked by my uncle if I could go to church with him one Sunday. I went a few times and felt that tugging at my heart. At the time I didn't know what it was, but now I know that it was the Holy Spirit pulling me to Christ. Finally, after a few weeks of denying and fighting this feeling, I gave my life to Christ and became a sold out, on fire, Spirit filled Christian on September 17th 2006.

I felt the immediate need to do something to better those around me and to help the community. I have always liked and been into hip hop music. So how could I use that to reach lost souls? I decided that I was going to start a Christian rap ministry and take the Gospel outside the walls of the church, and to the streets. pic of Brian Manus singingI have traveled all over the Midwest preaching the Gospel of Christ through rap music and I have watched several people come to know Christ through these methods. Rap music is catchy. People like the bass and the beats. That is what catches their attention. Ask anyone what they like about the latest hip hop song and they will tell you the beat. I take those same banging beats, but put a positive message behind it and it changes the whole perception of the song.

I have two CD's out and my wife has produced some of the beats on them. We feel that with our knowledge, help, and discipleship, we can turn around the lives of a lot of the youth on the streets today and teach them how to turn rap music into a positive. We want to reach out to the community and give them the resources that they need to turn their lives around and make them realize that they don't have to live in poverty, without mothers and fathers and that they CAN be someone. We want to introduce them into a church body and have them look at the church as one. And find someone that they can turn to in their time of need no matter how sinful they feel and no matter what they are going through in their lives.
